Bandi Sanjay Kumar, the Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, turned into a real-life hero on Monday when he rescued a woman who got stuck under a truck.
The incident took place in the Union minister’s constituency, near Singapoor village about 25 km outside of Karimnagar.
According to Huzurabad Assistant Commissioner of Police, a woman riding pillion on a motorcycle fell off the vehicle when it grazed past a truck. The mishap happened when the truck was heading towards Huzurabad from Karimnagar.
In the accident, the woman’s hair got stuck under the truck and the minister was present in the vicinity, on the opposite side of the road on Karimnagar-Warangal stretch of the highway.
“The woman’s hair got stuck under the running truck. Because the vehicle was stopped immediately, there were no major injuries to the woman,” the senior police officer said.
Sanjay, who was visiting the Huzurabad mandal, was crossing the spot in the other direction and stopped his convoy.
He then oversaw the rescue operation, while local youth and police worked on bringing the woman out safely. He then ordered the police to get her immediate medical care. The woman was later moved to a private hospital. He reportedly offered to bear the medical expenses.
The Union minister was recently in news when Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president KT Rama Rao (KTR) issued a legal notice against him for defamatory comments.
Sanjay had accused KTR of being involved in drug use and accused the previous BRS-led government, under former Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, was involved in phone tapping.
Last month, he was detained by the police for staging a protest supporting the aspirants of Telangana Public Service Commission Group 1 services, who demanded that the main examination be postponed.
